Welcome back to Radaptations, a new podcast we’re highlighting here at Bitter Empire. Each week, Ginny and Bridget take a deep dive into a book that became a movie and proclaim it a radaptation or a badaptation. On alternating weeks, you get a bonus “mini-episode” – a quick dip back into the previous week’s titles to tide you over until the next full episode.
This week, go back to school with the Radaptation sisters and continue the discussion of The Martian.
Class opens with a test: the Bechdel Test. What is it and does anybody pass it? Next we’ll hear Ginny and Bridget’s own short answer question and find out who they’d cast as their very own beef boy botanists. (Your assignment is to leave your pick in the comments.)
Then, a little yearbook retrospective with a stroll through the memory lane of Damon Sci-fi. After that, it’s time for the very first pop quiz! Listen to Ginny squirm as she tries to identify Damon sci-fi lines. (If you beat her score let us know and you’ll get a shout-out on the show. We’re on the honor system, folks.) And to round it out they’ve prepared a back-to-space school reading list for you of other spacey books and movies you might want to check out.
We hope you’ve had your fill of beef boy sci-fi, because next week we’re pivoting to everyone’s favorite Regency feminist – Jane Austen, reading Pride and Prejudice and watching the 2005 Kiera Knightly adaptation.
