That Was Unexpected: Eurovision 2016 Round-Up

  Elizabeth Lane /   May 16, 2016 /   Critic, Featured /   Leave a Comment

We unironically adore Croatia’s Robyn-by-way-of-Björk, Nina Kraljić, and her song “Lighthouse” is solid. Sick though we are of Eurovision’s “woman sings a ballad in front of a mic and doesn’t move” trope, we wouldn’t move in that dress, either — it’s an INTENSE multi-layered Klaus Nomi -esque thing.  And she’s cute, and her nose ring is FIERCE!  So while Bulgaria’s entry is steep competition, we feel 70% sure that Nina’s our new Eurovision crush, taking over from Marjetka Vovk from Slovenia last year (who, incidentally, we were happy to see during the jury vote results).
