The Comment Section: A Mobius Strip of Commentary

  Bitter Staff /   August 17, 2015 /   Critic /   Leave a Comment

Michael Kosta’s new show, The Comment Section (10:30, 9:30c on E!), aired its second episode and we here at Bitter Empire were absolutely right. We love being right. What were we right about you ask? Well, the meta-est show on television was significantly better in its second week. And, hey, we liked it to start with, so go Michael Kosta!

Kosta was more relaxed and is becoming a fantastic host. The segments were funny, and a lot edgier. Most appreciated: the walk on guests are hilarious.

Like last week, The Comment Section “correspondent” was awesome, commenting on the reactions to the new Fantastic Four movie.

Ben Bizuneh

Ben Bizuneh’s segment totally blew past the obvious racist comments on the movie and instead, did a bit on Denny’s movie tie-in menu. With viewers in on the joke the segment worked on a lot of levels. MOAR Ben Bizuneh please! Walk-on celebrity chef Nadia G did a Soup style quick take and was equally hilarious.

The interview was much improved. Interviewee Dan Bilzerian was a better fit for the net-centric show. Kosta’s did a great job of letting the beloved/hated Instagram “star” drive the interview into directions that worked well with Kosta’s deadpan and sardonic humor. Most favoritest moment? When Kosta pointed out that no, he did not actually know what “it” was like, because “it” was an insane, debaucherous and chauvinistic story.

We have high hopes for E!’s Friday night line up. By expanding on the awesomeness of The Soup with The Comment Section, it lets E! look like they are in on the joke, as opposed to being the butt of them.
